Good Old-Fashioned Family in a Virtual World

Ok, so I'm an Uruite....as in someone who was born virtually in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst. Paraphrased one more time...It was my first online world. In There, as an Uruite, as all of we Uruites are, have to deal with constant discrimination, fear, random acts of stupidity, and so forth because we had to migrate from Uru to There when our homeworld was shut down. Now, let me explain the difference between an Uruite and a Therian. First, there is no comparison of the two...yes, they're both made of pixels, but the based in carbon, real life, flesh and bones people behind the avatars are two totally different breeds. Over time in my posts, you can see that I do grouse quite a bit about Therians, in general because they "Just don't get it" for the most part, "it" being everything from having manners, taste in clothes, how to run their world, etc, they just don't get it. It would be like trying to explain to a 5 year old why they shouldn't stick their fin...

Paul Harvey, Andy Rooney and good old fashioned common sense.

This afternoon, I was stumbling around the internet because I'm truly sick and tired of what is going on in the There World. I happened upon a news story on Yahoo, and below, in the corner, was a link to Andy Rooney's clips from 60 minutes. In this wonderful "6-Pack of Common Sense", he took a look at everything from the President's staff to how truly ugly power lines are. He has such a comical and dry wit that you have to laugh over the fact that things are just so plainly obvious, but none of us ever bother to think about it. Growing up, I would get the rare treat of having my father take me to school. My father is not a tall man, he's only about 5'8, but he says he's shrinking now...I don't know about that, but my father will always be a giant to me. The one thing that will keep him a tall man in my mind were the happiest days of my childhood; those rare trips to school when we would get into his truck and he would turn on the radio and we...

People fear me.

Last night, I was talking to a very close friend of mine. I asked him point blank why it was that every time a big event or something huge comes up in There, me and my designs and all the rest of what I do in There are always passed over by the membership and the Staff... He put it in 3 words. "People fear you." Now that really bothered me...Why do people fear me? I'm usually very kind and good natured and I always have a smile for everyone I come across. I empower the people around me, I always encourage and applaud the people around me. When I don't know something, I'm always the first person to raise their hand and say, "I don't know". However, when I told my husband, he wasn't surprised in the least, he agreed wholeheartedly with my friend and said, "Of course they do." I still sat back in shock...Why? Why would people fear me? When he saw the puzzled look on my face, he looked at me and said, "How many people do you persona...

Exclusively what and restricted to whom....

You'd think by now that I'd know better than to go into the There forums...but no, old habits die hard. I was perusing the forums and came upon something that has irked the hell out of me from day 1 in the game...Elitism coming from people who have no business acting like they are elite. Now let's go over the basic RL looks of these folks...most are over weight...not all, but most. As I've gone over in previous posts, they're more the Wal-Mart set. Nothing wrong with that of course, but really, how elitist can you be when your world is based in pixels and/or you don't live a real world "elite" lifestyle? I see these people, some of which have no business investing the kind of money they do into There, and in most times don't have an, excuse the expression, "pot to piss in", yet, they act like they are the ones who make the virtual world turn. Others think that just because they know Gmax and can build enormous structures and have been in ...

Maliciousness and Drama

It's been about a month since I've last posted. I guess you can say that I have been busy. My husband (the angel that he is) finished moving all of the boxes that I couldn't carry (and in most of them I had no idea what the heck some of the contents were, I'm just glad they're out of the way), and now my office is a dream! My parents kindly donated a bed to our office/guestroom and now it is really fantastic. The rest of the house is fantastic! Just one more trip to Goodwill and everything will be squared away! YAY! My virtual mom came and stayed with me for a week...we had a grand time. I took her to Zumanity and we saw "Monsieur Phallus" and Izzy...one phrase makes my Virtual Mom crack up...SCOTCH BAGGIES. Ok if you don't get it, go see Zumanity and cheer your head off. All around the time that I was getting things fixed up here at the house and my virtual mom came to visit...what do you think happened? Drama ensued. But this time it landed...
