Exclusively what and restricted to whom....
You'd think by now that I'd know better than to go into the There forums...but no, old habits die hard.
I was perusing the forums and came upon something that has irked the hell out of me from day 1 in the game...Elitism coming from people who have no business acting like they are elite. Now let's go over the basic RL looks of these folks...most are over weight...not all, but most. As I've gone over in previous posts, they're more the Wal-Mart set. Nothing wrong with that of course, but really, how elitist can you be when your world is based in pixels and/or you don't live a real world "elite" lifestyle? I see these people, some of which have no business investing the kind of money they do into There, and in most times don't have an, excuse the expression, "pot to piss in", yet, they act like they are the ones who make the virtual world turn. Others think that just because they know Gmax and can build enormous structures and have been in world for 3 years and think that they know everything entitles them to be the king or queen of There, belittling everyone who passes their way.
I have watched over the last two years, people being demeaned and brow-beaten by people who consider themselves the "Upper Crust" of There. Please. They restrict the world and act like the rules do not apply to them, and that innovation is exclusively theirs and should belong to no one else. So that brings me to my favorite quote from the film "Auntie Mame"...
"Exclusively what and restricted to whom?"
I've watched as these people have monopolized the forums, treating other people no better than the dirt under their feet. They maliciously evicerate anyone who disagrees with their point of view, even when the person disagreeing is absolutely right. I have watched as they have been exempted from disciplinary action, shown out-right favoritism by the ThereStaff and feel that they can do anything or say anything they would like because they are the "Upper Crust".
Last time I checked, we're all human beings...well the "Upper Crust" has outright made me public enemy #1, and I have to say, that there is no place I'd rather be. How can you sit back and act like you own the world, when there are 10 times that amount that contribute more, innovate and think outside the box, producing things that are truly elegant, some contribute and share knowledge and skills that have true real world value, and on top of that are welcoming and completely open minded to new ideas?
Exclusively what and restricted to whom??? I want to know, I really do, what in hell entitles them to think they are "all that" when simply, they are no better than anyone else.
I might have grown up with a personal shopper, I might prefer to NOT shop at TJMaxx, but damn it!! I will not sit back and reject someone because they do. That's their choice. That's their budget. I'm able to go and do the things I do because I have the ability to...but I do not rub it in the faces of others that I am better than them. I share my experiences with love and joy...I'm good natured about it and I'm always inviting people to join me.
There is a large difference between living a lifestyle that others envy and being an elitist arse who has nothing better to do than ACT like they're better than everyone else when they are really not.
So really, Exclusively what and restricted to whom?
Get off your high freaking horse and realize that you are just like everyone else. Fame, no fame, average Joe Therian...we're all in it together. Don't demean people because you fear that they might "upstage" you. Embrace people's talents, don't reject them. You'll be a better person for it in the long run.
